Data for mayenites are co-plotted with literature data: filled squares for CaO-based compounds31; blue open squares for silicate glasses39; grey open squares for some solid salts30; filled circles for binary saline hydrides with alkaline-earth metals40, Mg41 and Li42; open circles for Ca3LiC3H (ref. 7) and Ba8Sb4OH2 (ref. 8). Horizontal axes of dO–H…O and dM–H were adjusted so that each of the two sets of mayenite data were aligned.
