(b) Retrogradely labelled cells were not found in the piriform cortex (PC). Retrogradely labelled neurons are found primarily in layers 2,3 and 5 in the contralateral barrel cortex (c), ipsilateral ventral posteromedial (VPM) thalamus (d), adjacent ipsilateral S2 (somatosensory) cortex (e). There is also sparse labelling of neurons ipsilaterally in basal forebrain (BF) nuclei (f).
