(f) The chin region encompassed by all the receptive fields of neurons in the expanded chin representation. The receptive fields were restricted to the rostral part of the chin (see Fig. 2). (g,h) Examples of receptive fields of neurons encountered in two penetrations marked by black arrowheads in Fig. 2a. Neurons at some of the recording sites had dual receptive fields on the hand and the chin due to sparing of the dorsal column fibres.
