  1. Daily and annual gross carbonate production for nine seagrass meadows that encompass the whole morphological variability displayed by the above ground biomass of T. testudinum in the Puerto Morelos reef lagoon, according to Enríquez and Pantoja-Reyes39. Seagrass carbonate budgets were calculated (a) using the estimated 2009 annual average value for the instantaneous calcification rate and (b) integrating the carbonate productivity between two consecutive samplings (∑AVGs Fig. 1c). The value determined in October 2008 was included in the calculation of the annual average value.
