  1. Expression levels (normalized reads) and differential expression level comparisons between the distal and proximal cochlea are depicted. Sequencing results from the distal end of the BP also include genes that may be expressed in the developing lagena macula (LM), an otolithic organ. Genes with Log2>1 expression level differences are more significantly expressed in the distal cochlea (Log2<−1 significant in proximal). Raldh3 encodes an enzyme that synthesizes RA; Cyp26c1 encodes for an enzyme that is involved in the breakdown of RA.
