(a) Routine H/E section and Snail expression detected by immunohistochemistry in H. pylori (−) or (+) gastritis samples from endoscopic biopsy. H. pylori infection on gastric epithelium was validated with Warthin–Starry staining (insets). Scale bar, 100 μm. Digital images of immunostaining were taken with Aperio Scanscope. See also Supplementary Fig. 5 for additional cases. (b) Relative Snail staining intensity of epithelial cells to endothelial cells was determined by image analysis as described in the Methods. The relative log expression values were represented and the statistical difference was obtained using the Student’s t-test. Box plots represent the median (horizontal line) and interquartile range (box) of the indicated distribution. The whiskers extend from the top/bottom of the box to the highest/lowest data value.
