Shown are the time profiles of cell growth, L-arginine production and carbon source concentration during the fed-batch cultivation of the AR1 (a), AR2 (b) and AR3 (c) strains using glucose as a carbon source, and the AR4 (d), AR5 (e) and AR6 (f) strains using glucose and sucrose (1:1 weight ratio) as dual carbon sources in 5 l lab-scale bioreactor. The CGAJ medium was used in all these cultivations. Closed circle, cell growth (OD600); open circle, glucose (Glu in ac) and glucose and sucrose (Glu+Suc in df); closed red square, L-arginine (Arg). The second set of the fed-batch cultivation data are available in Supplementary Fig. 4.
