Solid line and dashed line represent the degradation of CH3Hg+ in the presence (1 mmol l−1) or absence of CH3I, respectively. The degradation rate of was calculated to be 0.015±0.001 m2 E−1 in the presence of CH3I and 0.013±0.002 m2 E−1 without CH3I. The degradation of CH3Hg+ showed no significant difference in the presence or absence of CH3I (P>0.1). All the tests were conducted in triplicate, and the error bars indicate the s.d. of three repeated measurements.
