(a) The interaction between Gag and eEF2 blocks SG induced by either Ars or PatA. The Gag–CypA association stabilizes the Gag–eEF2 association promoting the block to SG assembly. The depletion of either CypA or eEF2 as well as the expression of CA mutants (Q7A/Q9A; G89A) reverse the phenotype. (b) The overexpression of G3BP1 promotes spontaneous SG assembly. Under this condition, the interaction between Gag and eEF2 blocks SG assembly, but over time, G3BP1 displaces eEF2 from Gag, to promote the disassembly of SG.
