Images were captured during two different but highly repeatable experiments where the line-of-sight was (a) parallel and (b) at an angle of 45° with respect to the pillar rows. The top row of images (t1) correspond to the end of the advancing stage while the bottom row (t2) corresponds to an instant during the global pinning stage when the apparent contact angle along all directions was <90°.
