(a) C57BL/6 mice (n=9) were infected intracerebrally with H99, ctr1Δ, ctr4Δ and ctr1Δctr4Δ cells, and the animals were monitored for signs of C. neoformans infection. Statistical analysis was performed using the log-rank test (***P<0.005). (b,c) Experiments were performed as described in a. Each C. neoformans strain was used to infect 10 C57BL/6 mice. Statistical analysis was performed using the log-rank test (***P<0.005). (d) C57BL/6 mice (n=4) were infected intranasally with H99 for 7 and 14 days. The control mice (n=4) were not infected. Lung and brain tissues were harvested, and proteins were isolated and quantified. IFN-γ and TNF-α ELISA assays were performed. Statistical analysis was performed using Student’s t-test. The data are presented as the mean±s.d.
