The different regions are: axisymmetric (circle); asymmetric (solid triangle); and breakup (square). The axisymmetric regime is called region I. The two colours within the asymmetric regime represent non-oscillatory region II (shown in green), and oscillatory region III (blue) dynamics. The two colours within the breakup regime represent the peripheral breakup region IV (light yellow), and the central breakup region V (darker yellow). The red dash–dotted line is the Mo=10−3 line, above which oscillatory motion is not observed in experiments in refs 21, 22. Typical bubble shapes in each region are shown. In this and similar figures below, the bubble shapes have been made translucent to enable the reader to get a view of the internal shape.
