Average domain fractions (white—folded, grey—misfolded and black—unfolded) obtained in the presence of 10 μM DnaJ were compared at steady state with control experiments using 8xI27 alone (control) or in the presence of 20 μM lysozyme (Lys). The number of domains analysed was 405 for control, 479 for 10 μM DnaJ and 329 for lysozyme. *P≤0.05, **P≤0.01 and ***P≤0.001, with P-values determined using the Mann–Whitney U-test are given in Supplementary Table 2. Error bars represent the standard error (s.e.).
