(a–b) Scanning electron microscopy images (70° tilt view) of square arrays (6 × 10) of ZnO rods grown at a Cb of 2.5 mM (a) and 1.6 mM (b). For the growth mask, circular hole arrays with diameters (identical in the same arrays) gradually increasing from 100 nm (far left array) to 500 nm (far right array) were used (see Supplementary Fig. 1, type II). Scale bars, 2 μm. (c) Plots of HZnO versus DZnO for the series of square arrays (6 × 10) of ZnO rods. Holes in the growth masks are identical to those used in a and b. All error bars denote 1 s.d. from the average of more than 10 rod measurements.
