For all MLGs containing >100 genes, the direction of enrichment was determined by Wilcoxon rank-sum test (P<0.05, Supplementary Data 3). Size of the nodes scales with the number of genes (102~3613) in the MLG. MLGs annotated to species or genera are coloured according to family. Edges between nodes indicate Spearman’s correlation >0.8 (green), between 0.6 and 0.8 (light to dark blue) or <−0.6 (red), calculated according to the samples under comparison.
