Data were obtained using force-jump experiments in the optical tweezers and fit using the global analysis described in Methods. Each point represents the weighted average of rate measurements from at least six different protein tethers and error bars represent the s.e. Inset shows the geometry along which shearing forces were applied. (b) Percentage flux through pathways S1 (unbroken lines) and S2 (dotted lines) plotted as a function of force in 0 M (black) and 1 M urea (blue).
