The dotted line at 6.14 V cm−1 corresponds to the 53 five-body FRET allowed through three relay atoms. Finally, the dashed-dotted line at 6.74 V cm−1 corresponds to the 51 five-body FRET where a single relay atom is enough to allow the energy exchange of two pairs of atoms. Each point corresponds to the average of 150–300 individual measurements. The error bars correspond to the sum of the s. e. m. and the estimated error in the state discrimination.
