(a) One of the patch geometries considered. It contains a total of 928 lattice sites evenly divided into the (red dots) and (blue dots) sublattices. The green and black circles indicate the sites defined as the centre and the edges, respectively. These sites are used to compute the CLDOS. (b) The CLDOS of HS is flat around ɛ=0 indicating a gap. The Bott index is identically zero for all energies. (c) For HF, the CLDOS at the edges (at the centre) has a finite (zero) slope about ɛ=0. This indicates the presence of edge states inside the bulk gap. Moreover, the Bott index for energies within the bulk gap is +1 indicating that the system is topological. Inset in c shows a site in sublattice and its three nearest neighbours. The nearest-neighbour vectors are: , δ3=a(−1, 0).
