(a) The beam paths for the illumination laser and PL are shown in red and orange, respectively. The text has a full description of the all optical components. (b) Images taken of the reference slit of known size, which enables the magnification of the optical system to be characterized in terms of pixels (px) μm−1. The slits are exchanged for a semiconductor device and the laser spot is imaged on the surface. (c) Intensity profile cross-section of the laser spot image showing diffraction-limited performance. The size of the laser spot is determined by taking the 1/e2 diameter of the laser spot.
