The relationship between type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and depression is complex. Patients with T2DM have an increased prevalence of depression; however, whether T2DM leads to development of depression, or vice versa, is unclear. Golden and colleagues addressed this issue in a multicenter, longitudinal cohort study that examined the relationship between these two disorders.
