Degradation of Haem Compounds to Bile Pigments

Abstract

The various enzymatic and non-enzymatic mechanisms proposed for the degradation of haem to bile pigments are critically reviewed. The importance of accurate methods of determining isomeric status of bile pigments in relation to these mechanisms is emphasized.
