Abstract
THE neurotransmitter substances released from presynaptic terminals may be inactivated in different ways: (1) by metabolic conversion to inactive substances, (2) by diffusion away from the synaptic area, or (3) by cellular uptake from the region of the synaptic cleft; for example, by re-uptake into the presynaptic terminals1.
