Elongation Factor T Altered in a Temperature-sensitive Escherichia coli Mutant

Abstract

TO study the function of tRNA and of those cell elements that interact with it, a class of mutant has been isolated that only grows at 42° C in the presence of added tRNA1. This class includes mutants in which the endogenous tRNA is nonfunctional at 42° C (refs. 1 and 2); here we describe another type that seems to have a lesion in the elongation factor (EF) Ts.
