Memory testing procedure: animals are first submitted to an acquisition phase in which they are forced to enter twice the same arm of the maze (two forced trials); then, after a 24-h delay interval, they are submitted to the test phase in which they can freely enter either arm of the maze. An alternation is scored when the mouse enters the arm opposite to the one visited in the acquisition phase. Treatments (stress, and drug infusions in the dHPC) are delivered before the test phase, according to the experimental schedule described in the Materials and methods section.
