Compared with unrelated healthy individuals, age- and sex-adjusted telomere length was shorter in psychiatrically well relatives and in relatives with psychiatric diagnoses relative to controls (p=0.07; not shown in figure). Lithium-treated patients with BD had longer telomere length compared with relatives, regardless of psychiatric status, and patients with BD not on lithium.
