Wikis as platforms for scholarly publishing

Abstract

While scholarly publishing has traditionally focused on stand-alone articles describing how a specific act of research advanced knowledge in a particular area for once, wikis and similar collaborative online environments provide the technical means to focus on contextually interlinked concepts instead and to update them continuously as new research results come in. Some platforms based totally or in part on these principles have already been put to practical tests whose relevance for Open Access publishing are discussed here, paying special attention to implementations of the review process.
