Dislocation Distributions in Naturally Deformed Omphacite and Albite

Abstract

RECENTLY White1 and Boland et al.2 have shown that dislocation distributions in naturally deformed quartz (in quartzite) and olivine (in dunite) are consistent with deformation by a creep mechanism. Most dislocations were found to be arranged in irregular subgrain boundaries, with a few individual dislocations within the cells delineated. The object of our investigation was to examine the microstructure of an omphacite and an albite, which had been plastically deformed at elevated temperatures, and to see whether these microstructures could also have been produced by creep.
