Abstract
One of the most intriguing results emerging from extended observations of X-ray sources is that in at least two cases the period of the rapid variation is decreasing1–4. Thus, Her X-1 has a “pulsar” period of ∼1.2 s decreasing by ∼4.5 µ;s in ∼6 months, and Cen X-3 has a period of ∼4.8 s decreasing by ∼200 µs in ∼6 months.
