Abstract
Ferroelectric liquid-crystalline polytartrate (LCPTT) was prepared by melt polycondensation, and studied for thermal properties and ferroelectric behavior. Cholesteric and chiral smectic C* (SmC*) phases were observed. LCPTT exhibited the large spontaneous polarization value of 5 mC m−2 in the SmC* phase because of a stereopolar coupling of the chiral tartrate moiety.
