For example, the oligo-p-phenylene units such as terphenyl unit in the copolymer may have a stronger electron-withdrawing ability than the oligo-m-phenylene units to give negatively charged oligo-p-phenylene units and positively charged oligo-m-phenylene units along the polymer chain.
