Abstract
The STS in red cell membranes more frequently altered in EH patients are Na: Na countertransport (CTT) and Na: K contransport (Co). Genetical and environmental factors are involed in the pathogenesis of essential hypertension. Hypertensive adults and their offsprings were studied in order to investigate a familiar aggregation. CTT, Co, Na:k Pump (P) and passive permeability (PP) were studied in 17 EH adults (x: 40 years) and their offspeings (n= 24), 10 hypertensive and 14 normotensive (x: 9.4 years, 12 girls and 12 boys). 16/17 parents and 22/24 offsprings presented alterations in one of the STS. A significant correlation was found between parents and offsprings: Co r: 0.59 (P<0.005), CTT r=0.70 (P < 0.005), P r: 0.60 (P < 0.005), PP r: 0.84 (P < 0.001). The present results indicate that CTT, Co, P and PP display statistically significant familial correlation.
