Background: In order to define the role of endogenous prostaglandins (PGs) in the hypoxemia-induced renal vasoconstriction, the effects of indomethacin pretreatment were studied in the newborn rabbit.

Subjects: Three groups of 8 anesthetized and mechanically-ventilated newborn rabbits. The clearances of inulin and PAH were used as indexes of GFR (glomerular filtration rate) and RBF (renal blood flow), respectively.
