Background: In experimental studies, increasing mean airway pressure during high-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV) can reduce cerebral blood flow (CBF). The aim of this study is to evaluate if sustained lung inflations can affect the CBF and the cerebral blood volume (CBV) in human newborn.

Patients: 6 newborns receiving HFOV for hyaline membrane disease(4), birth asphyxia (1) and congenital cardiopathy (1)
