Introduction: Partial liquid ventilation (PLV) starts to become a new tool to ventilate severely ill patients. Beside improving oxygenation, animal data from Steinhorn et al. (CCM 1996.24) suggest, that PLV increases surfactant secretion, but the results were questioned (CCM 1997.25).
