Background. Evaluation of short stature is the second most common reason for referral to pediatric endocrinology. This evaluation often includes neuroimaging studies such as MRI, however, the cost/benefit ratio of such studies has not been examined.

Objective. To analyze charts from children presenting to pediatric endocrinology for the evaluation of short stature and to report the number who undergo neuroimaging and the number and types of abnormal studies. We hypothesized that children with GHD would have smaller pituitary glands and more abnormalities than children with other causes for their short stature.
