A child's health is very dependent on keeping the caretaker healthy. For most HIV-infected children, the caretaker is usually the mother, who is also infected. Because of her poor health, she may not be able to care for her children. Although most HIV-infected children are in the health care system and their medical needs are being met, the same is not true for their mothers.

Objective: To assess the health care needs of HIV-infected women and their infected children and to describe a novel model of family centered care.
