Introduction: Enteroviruses are believed to be important pathogens in infants, however, their overall contribution to fever in this age group is unknown. The availability of PCR for the rapid identification of enteroviruses provides an opportunity to investigate the frequency of enteroviral infections in febrile infants. This data could impact the clinical management of these infants significantly.

Objective: To determine the overall and seasonal incidence of enteroviral (EV) infections in febrile infants under 90 days of age and in afebrile controls.
