Activity of Topical Antimicrobial Agents against Staphylococcus aureus Isolated from Pediatric Burn Patients

Background: Despite the progress in the care of pediatric burn patients, infection continues to be a major cause of mortality and morbidity. Although any organism is a potential pathogen, Staphylococcus aureus has increased in predominance as the cause of burn wound infection. Bacitracin, mupirocin and nitrofurazone are topical antimicrobial agents used in the treatment of staphylococcal infections in burn patients.
