Long Term Outcome in ELBW Infants (<1000 Grams)

Advances in perinatal medicine have significantly improved the survival of extremely low birth weight infants(ELBW). Our purpose was to review the long term outcome in ELBW infants. Method: For this were studied 75 to 102 survivors of the infants admitted to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center Level III NICU during the period of January, 1993 to December, 1996. Birth weights of these babies ranged from 501-995 grams, with a mean of 773 grams, and gestational ages ranged from 22-32 weeks, with a mean of 26.6 weeks.
