Cerebral Glucose Metabolism in Term Newborn Infants with Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) - A Positron Emission Tomography Study (PET)

PET with 18-FDG(2-(18F)fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose) was used to measure brain metabolism in 20 term infants with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) in the subacute period after perinatal asphyxia. The aim of the study was to quantify cerebral metabolic rate of glucose (CMRglc) for the whole brain and in different regions and to analyze the correlation of CMRglc with different degrees of HIE.
