Nitric Oxide (NO)-Cyclic GMP (cGMP) Responses of Premature and Adult Rat Brain Synaptosomes to Morphine Sulfate (MS) and Morphine-3-Glucuronide (M-3-G)

Background: NO is a powerful mediator of cGMP formation in the brain. Tolerance to MS is associated with increases in brain cGMP levels in response to activation of NMDA receptor. These responses may be dependent on CNS maturity. Therefore, we examined the modulatory role of MS and M-3-G on the NO-cGMP system in adult and premature rat brain synaptosomes.
