Before beginning my formal remarks, I want to take this opportunity on behalf of the entire membership of the American Pediatric Society (APS) to express our gratitude to Vice President Buckley, to the Council, to committee chairs and their members, to our spectacular program committee and to our superb staff in Texas, for all of their efforts on our behalf, throughout the year. In particular, I want to express my deepest appreciation to Debbie Anagnostelis and Kathy Cannon, our Executive and Associate Executive directors respectively, whose superb contributions both at the staff and program levels have been, and continue to be, extraordinary.

Lastly, a special word of appreciation to Norman Siegel who has served this society as its Secretary-Treasurer over the past 6 years. Norm's contributions have been enormous and are deeply appreciated by all. Norm's legacy will be well served in the able hands of Bill Hay, who, as Secretary-Treasurer Elect, has done much this year to keep this president and your elected council informed, operational, and in line. On behalf of the entire Society, my thanks and appreciation to both Norm and Bill for the superb efforts which they consistently provide.
