Nt-acetylation of histone H4 precludes other modifications near the N-terminus. Nt-acetylation of H4 blocks the nuclear translocation of casein kinase 2, α subunit (CK2α) and phosphorylation of Ser1 on H4. Arg3 dimethylation of yeast H4 by histone methyltransferase 1 (HMT1) is also precluded by H4 Nt-acetylation
