Proposed model of oxHDL actions modulating LOX-1 expression and localization in ECs. oxHDL interacts with LOX-1 receptor (1) inducing an increase in ROS production (3) via NAD(P)H oxidase 2 isoform (2) and inducing downstream NF-κB activation (4). NF-κB also promotes LOX-1 over-expression (5) in a positive feedback loop. LOX-1 over-expression is also induced by presence of TNF-α (6) (through binding of TNF-α receptor), H2O2 (7) and GSSG (8), via NF-κB pathway
