The anal lesions (right side of the mucosa) merged with the adjacent rectal epithelium (b). Tumors featured columnar cells with mucinous (c) or mucin-poor (pseudoendometrioid) features; apical mitoses and apoptotic bodies were easily identified (d). Anal tumor with abundant intracytoplasmic mucin that was in the form of goblet cells (e) in some areas and multivacuolated in others (f) imparting a clear cell appearance.
