Perifornical area Urocortin-3 neuronal activation levels in response to foreign pups depends on physiological context. Rostral perifornical area cells containing Urocortin-3 (green) and Fos (magenta) RNA were visualized by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and counted for colocalization in each group of females after exposure to a control stimulus (fresh bedding) or a foreign pup (scale bar 100 µm; blue, DAPI; arrows for colocalization).
