Acute-stress induction has led to comparable response patterns in hormonal and subjective measures in Wave-1 and Wave-2 assessments. Negative affect peaked immediately after the onset of stress induction and declined thereafter, until eventually below the prestress baseline level. Cortisol showed the expected downward trend observed after the morning peak, which was followed by a peak at 20 minutes after the onset of stress induction and remained high. Although overall cortisol increases (i.e., the difference between +20 and 0 minutes) were larger in Wave-2 than in Wave-1 assessments (p < 0.05), no differences were observed in negative-affect responses (i.e., the difference between +10 and 0 minutes).
