Participants were assigned to the exposure group or control group. Exposure-induced changes in fear and avoidance of spiders were assessed with behavioral approach tests (BATs) prior to (Pre) and after exposure (Post). BATs for heights as the untreated stimulus were conducted to assess exposure treatment generalization. The order of BATs with spiders and heights was counterbalanced across participants. The BAT for spiders was conducted in the treatment room, while the BAT for heights was conducted in a church tower.
