I have been at the receiving end of discrimination and bias all my life and especially since coming to the UK from Colombia because I am a different colour, I speak differently because I have an accent and so on.
Early on in my career there were many instances of people being unfriendly and even aggressive. I believe that the best way to combat this is to give the best of yourself to others - especially to those who are not giving the best of themselves to you. This is the gift you give them and yourself. And it's infectious. I work in a very unconventional way - from the heart. I believe that this has made me a much better businesswoman and dentist and my success in the industry and the testimonies of my staff (past, present) and patient base is evidence of this.
