Sir, after recently attending one of my first dental conferences, I am eager to share my experience. In my final year of dental school (2021), I was honoured to win the Pitt-Ford Prize in Endodontics from the British Endodontic Society (BES). As part of the prize I was invited to attend a celebratory dinner with fellow prize winners and BES council members, and complimentary attendance to the BES Spring Scientific Meeting 2022. The title of the meeting was 'A Passion for Endodontics', a perfect title for an event abundant with passion.
The day's programme provided a blend of highly skilled clinical content along with the inspirational personal stories of how each speaker got to where they are now. At the celebratory dinner, myself and fellow prize winners were welcomed warmly by the council members, who were open and interested in hearing our opinions and experiences of undergraduate endodontic teaching and how it prepares us for endodontics 'in the real world' after qualifying. It emphasised the importance of our generation of dentists being proactive and involved in societies to allow our voices to be heard. Together with the wealth of experience and knowledge of other members there is so much potential for innovation in so many areas of dentistry.
